My interest in artistic fields (acting and music) as a career was often met with the common responses most every aspiring artist has heard, “Why don’t you get a regular job?” or “Go to school and get a skill you can use to support yourself while you wait and hope for your big break” Though I held many different types of jobs during my early days in acting, it wasn’t until 1985 that I finally took heed of the advice I had received for so long. I went to Control Data Institute graduating in 1986 and receiving a certificate in Computer Technology. It was the beginning of a new passage in my life.

From 1986, the year I graduated and got my first job in the computer industry, to now I held a variety of jobs. I have worked in positions ranging from field service engineer (going out to customer sites to install, repair, and maintain their computer networks, equipment, and peripherals) to test technician in lab and manufacturing environments to telephone customer support. And school? I have taken so many courses in computer-related subjects (including a course in Multimedia Applications at USC School of Engineering) until I should be able write a book about it. I’m Microsoft-certified in two subjects and currently working towards getting my MCSE (Microsoft Certified Systems Engineer ) certification. I am also hoping to earn my Solaris (Unix) certification in the not-too-distant future.

All in all, though it will never replace my true loves, I’m quite happy with the skills I have developed in the computer field. It is because of these skills that I have been able to put this website together and do things that many other people routinely require assistance in doing. I’m very big on learning, regardless of the subject, so this journey into the computer field has been rewarding, productive, and enlightening.
